Lite

Galaxy on Fire 2 Lite ,or GoF2 Lite, was a demo version of Galaxy on Fire 2, dating from the days when the game wasn't free.

Gameplay[]

Limits[]

  • Several items are unavailable. Notably, thermal fusion weapons (such as Thermic o5) and all DLC-only weapons.
  • The map is limited to only two solar systems, Aquila System and Union system. The player can see other systems on the world map, but cannot access them. If he attempts to jump to other systems, an ad appears and prompts the player to buy the full game while advertising the many features not included in the demo.
  • As such, the questline was extremely short. The game starts after Keith met Brent on Alioth (although the player spawns at Io Ombak), and ends once the player rescues Thomas Boyle in the Kappa orbit (since the game tasks the player to head to Thynome, where he cannot go).

Trivia[]

  • GoF2 wasn't the only game with a demo available. In fact, many now-defunct iOS games of the early 2010s weren't free. A lot of developers such as Fishlabs, Gameloft or even Mojang (Minecraft Pocket Edition) offered a demo under the "LITE" or "FREE" denomination, aiming to promote the full game. When the mobile games market stopped making paid games in favor of freemium software bundled with microtransactions, these demos quietly disappeared from the App Store.
  • Unfortunately, the game doesn't exist anymore in the App Store. Moreover, it is a 32-bit only game that does not work on modern 64bit (iOS 11+) iDevices. All of that make this demo extremely hard to obtain.
  • If one owns an older iPhone and wants to launch it anyway, there are .IPA files of the app available on the internet[1]. Be aware that a jailbreak, as well as a 32bit iPhone/iPad, is required in order to install the app.
  • Just like GoF2 SD, neither music nor voices work. Additionally, dialogue is automatically skipped, making it impossible to read what the characters say.
  • Similarly to GoF3D, GoF2 Lite is stuck in the 3:2 aspect ratio.
